Componenta is an internationally operating metal sector company with production plants in Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden. Merging the foundries in Alvesta, Sweden and Karkkila, Finland, and concentrating the operations at Karkkila was one of the major investments in the Componenta Group\s foundries and engineering works to improve their productivity and competitiveness.HUOM SKANDIT, HEITTOMERKIT, TAVUVIIVAT JNE.
In this foundry transfer project, an HWS automatic moulding machine was moved from the Alvesta foundry to Karkkila. At the same time, the frame height of the moulding machine was raised, which will make it possible to manufacture larger items. At Karkkila, melting and sand production capacity was increased and investments were made for example in the core making and cleaning shops. The new production plant at Karkkila will have an annual capacity of 30 000 tonnes a year.
The foundry transfer project was implemented according to a tight schedule. Planning of the merger was started in October 2003. In May 2004, dismantling work was started and the new plant at Karkkila was started up in August 2004.
The engineering work included:
P;yry Engineering was responsible for mechanical, electrical and automation engineering. After the start/up of the new production line at Karkkila, P;yry Engineering continued to plan the dismantling of the old line, also providing project management services for transferring the line at a later stage.
